I am very excited to have helped start the first women’s cancer survivor Dragon Boat Team in New York City. As a nurse, I have watched womens’ spirit and strength rise to endure all that is psychological and physical while going through cancer treatment. Now, as a nurse and personal trainer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, I work with them on their journey to improve their strength, endurance, balance and quality of life through fitness. Watching the transformation of these women as they improve their fitness level and go on to lead normal lives have been my reward.
Taking this one step further from the individual level and on to participating in a competitive team sport is very restorative process. The camaraderie of the team environment helps each woman regain her spirit and strength – emotionally and physically. The cancer is behind them, and the women are competing to live their lives to the fullest through Dragon Boat racing. We are the “Empire Dragon Boat Team – a spirited, strong and successful team! The funds we collect goes to cancer research so all can be survivors and join us. My motto is Spirit+Strength=Success, please join us – we welcome your support!
